두앵커 Two Anchors, 2025

Two anchors both moor and vocalize.

One remains, the other moves —

a dance of fixity and flow.

How do ancient patterns endure?

Can public sculptures end up as totems?

When the song fades into silence,

may we find a fleeting sync.

Signals transcend language —

messengers of the sky.

Two Anchors
a site-specific performance
Windmill Perform’s Open Air Festival, 2025

두앵커 Two Anchors is a site-specific performance conceived and directed by artist Yi Yunyi, made in collaboration with performer and choreographer Yun Lee, producer Jinyoung Shin, and dancer Jihyun Bang.

Hangang Park, Seoul
overlooking Bamseom Island

Set in Hangang Park in Seoul, the work unfolds across the landscape of the park that overlooks Bamseom Island, a pair of uninhabited islets in the Han River and a protected urban sanctuary for migratory birds.

The two performers anchor each other from a distance.

The audience either follows them or move in between them.

The performers take the audience on a journey down the Mapo bridge.

The audience goes for a ten-minute walk along the Han river. A portable speaker rolls past and leads the way:  “Welcome to the bird-watching tour.”

Fish jump out of the river, weasles fight in the bushes.

The audience is led through the tunnel,

up the stairs,

and into a playground,
where the anchor finally drops.

Two Anchors is an immersive performance partly shaped by the soundscapes of the city accompanied by Naptalam by Vomit & Tears, instrumental scores composed by Namyoon Kim.

The movement and experience of the audience is shaped by the proximate and distant relationship they form with the performers who guide, accompany, seduce, disturb, and anchor them across sites that unfold before them.

The experience incorporates a solo performance by Yun Lee, who works with the image of the undulating waters projected at the entrance of the tunnel, absorbing movement of pigeons, vocalizing imaginary bird calls, and inviting the audience into their space. They create distance by scraping the anchor against concrete, an anchor that was used to moor ships at the Western seafront.

The documentation of the performance was made into a 26-minute video/performance piece that was selected to be screened at 26th Seoul International Cine-Media Festival (NeMAF 2026).
